America Runs On Dunkin’
Monday morning, the alarm goes off around 7:15 but I was awake about 7:00. We were on our way to get our first sonogram to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. The night before we talked about how several people we knew had issues finding out what the sex of their baby was because of crossed legs or just overall shyness. We could not let this happen. So, on our way to the appointment, we stopped by Dunkin’ Donuts so Lindsey could get some caffeine in her system. Keep in mind, she’s hardly had any kind of caffeine these first 18 weeks of the pregnancy so we knew her Mocha Swirl Latte would be potent, or so we thought.
We decided to invite our moms to the appointment so they could share the big reveal moment with us. It’s seemed like we waited in the lobby forever. We finally got into the exam room around 9:15. It was a little crowded but not bad. The technician squeezed the goopy stuff on her sonogram thingy and placed it on Lindsey’s stomach. Within about 3 seconds she said, “Well, I know what this one is.” “Already?!” Lindsey exclaimed. “What is it?” The technician said, “It’s definitely a boy.” We were, of course, really excited. A resounding “awwww” went around the room. Check out the photo below. It’s a view from below so you can see his two legs and his… boy parts.
It was so amazing seeing our little man moving around in there. Strange to see something so alive that Lindsey couldn’t quite feel yet save for a few flurries over the last couple weeks. You could see the little heart beating and his arms and legs moving around. It was already amazing getting to see him for the first time and now, thanks to the Mocha Swirl Latte, he was doing backflips. We asked what the heart rate was and, surprisingly, it was normal (about 145 bpm) so it was then apparent that the coffee may not have been the cause of the acrobatics. It was probably just the fact that Kirkland boys are a little wild and crazy and tend to do backflips on occasion. I think he was just showing off. We also think he might be musically inclined because he kept tapping his foot in a steady rhythm. Maybe he’ll be a drummer.

Everything seems to be normal so far. He measured almost 13 cm (crown to rump) and weighs about 9 oz.
Lindsey likes his little button nose.

Boys are awesome! I was ok with either, but kinda hoped for a girl. I thought, a girl, I totally understand, a boy, i have NO IDEA. Well, this boy has grown of me and I’ve actually thought I would be totally ok having ONLY boys! They are awesome! And from what I hear, they love their mamas!!

You are going to LOVE having a boy..
A baby boy’s a promise
Of happy things to come-
Building blocks, a rocking horse
A baseball glove, a drum
There’ll be lots of noise and action
You’ll be brim-full of pride
A busy, loving, fun filled home
With lots of joy inside
We Cant wait to meet you.
Love you,
